Paper Planners
5 Paper Planners That Suit an ADHD Brain
Short commitments, a time attached to every task, and a book that stays open. Those three features do more than any amount of layout theory.

1. A short commitment rather than a year
Panda Planner Undated Daily Planner, 90-Day
Ninety days, undated, with an hourly schedule down one side. The short run is the feature, not a limitation.
#ad No live price right now. How this is funded
Ninety days is roughly a season, and that is the honest unit for anyone whose relationship with planners has historically ended in February. A year-long book that gets abandoned in week six is a year-long reminder of that; a 90-day book that gets abandoned in week six was always going to end anyway.
The spiral binding is the underrated part. It folds flat and folds back, so it takes up half a desk instead of a whole one, and it stays open while you write.
The hourly column is a scaffolding device. If the recipient struggles to start tasks rather than to remember them, an hour grid is more useful than a to-do list, because it forces a when as well as a what.

What it does well
- Undated and only 90 days, so the commitment is small and the stakes are low.
- Spiral binding lies genuinely flat.
- Hourly layout suits people who need a time attached to a task, not just a list.
What it does not
- No published paper weight.
- Ninety days means they will need another one by spring, which some buyers read as a subscription.
Skip this: if you want the gift to last the year. It will not, by design, and if that is what you were buying you will be disappointed on their behalf in March.
2. A desk-sized version of the same idea
Panda Planner Pro, Undated, 6-Month
Six months of daily, weekly and monthly pages at letter size, undated, for a desk that has the room.
#ad No live price right now. How this is funded
Six months at letter size is the middle setting between the 90-day pocket edition and a full-year desk planner. It is the one to buy when the recipient works at a fixed desk.
Time blocking on a big page is meaningfully easier than time blocking on an A5 spread, simply because the rows are tall enough to write in.
Undated again, so the six months start whenever they open it rather than whenever it was printed.

| Layouts | Daily, weekly and monthly, with time blocking and habit trackingSource: Amazon listing - Panda Planner Pro |
| Paper weight | Not published |
What it does well
- Letter-size pages give real room for time blocking.
- Undated, so nothing is wasted if it sits under the tree for a month.
- Daily, weekly and monthly views in one book.
What it does not
- Too big to carry.
- No published paper weight.
- Six months, so it is a half-year gift priced like a planner.
Skip this: if their work is not desk-bound. A letter-size planner that lives in a bag gets bent corners within a fortnight.
3. The same system in a bag-sized book
Clever Fox Weekly Planner, Undated, A5
The compact Clever Fox: same 120 gsm paper and habit-tracking structure, small enough to actually carry.
#ad No live price right now. How this is funded
This is the version of the Clever Fox that fits in a bag, and for a gift that usually matters more than the extra page area of the PRO.
The paper is the same published 120 gsm, so the writing experience does not drop when the format does. That is unusual - most ranges thin the stock on the small edition.
It is still an opinionated planner with habit trackers and goal pages. Buying it for somebody who wanted a calendar is the mismatch to watch for.

| Structure | Monthly, weekly and daily sections with a habit tracker and to-do listsSource: Amazon listing - Clever Fox Weekly Planner Undated |
| Included | StickersSource: Amazon listing - Clever Fox Weekly Planner Undated |
What it does well
- 120 gsm in an A5 body, which is rare at this size and price.
- Undated, so no season pressure on either of you.
- Habit tracking is built in rather than bolted on with stickers.
What it does not
- Weekly space is tight compared with the letter-size PRO edition.
- The structure is prescriptive; a lot of it goes unused by casual planners.
Skip this: if the recipient has said, in any words at all, that they find productivity systems stressful. This book is a system.
4. The best-presented planner under most gift budgets
Legend Planner, Undated, A5
Eco-leather hardcover, 120 gsm paper, three ribbons and a pen loop, in a size that fits a bag.
#ad No live price right now. How this is funded
This is the one that punches above its price band on presentation. Three ribbons and a pen loop on an A5 hardcover is specification you normally pay considerably more for.
120 gsm again, published, which puts it in the same paper class as the Clever Fox and well above the hardcover planners that decline to state a weight.
The pen loop is worth calling out because it changes the gift. A planner with a loop invites a pen alongside it, and a planner plus a pen reads as a considered pair rather than one item.

| Dating | Undated, weekly and monthlySource: Amazon listing - Legend Planner Undated A5 |
| Fittings | Eco-leather hardcover, pen loop, elastic band, three bookmarks, rear pocket, sticker sheetsSource: Amazon listing - Legend Planner Undated A5 |
What it does well
- 120 gsm paper in a genuinely portable A5 hardcover.
- Pen loop, so the obvious companion gift has somewhere to live.
- Undated, with monthly calendars the recipient dates themselves.
What it does not
- Bright colorways dominate the range, which narrows who it suits.
- The goal-setting sections are extensive; a pure calendar user will leave pages blank.
Skip this: if the recipient's taste is severe. The range leans decorative, and a plain black book is a safer gift for someone whose desk is all steel and gray.
5. Someone who writes a lot every day
Moleskine Classic 12-Month 2027 Daily Planner, Large
A full page per day, 400 pages of it, for the person whose weekly planner is always overflowing.
#ad No live price right now. How this is funded
400 pages against the weekly edition's 144 is the entire difference between these two books, and it is a difference in commitment rather than quality. A page a day is roughly 2.7 times the paper and a noticeably thicker block in the hand.
The failure mode of a daily planner is blank pages. If the recipient writes three lines a day, a daily layout gives them 362 pages of visible guilt. If they write fifteen, a weekly spread runs out by Wednesday.
This is the safer buy when you have actually seen them write, and the riskier one when you have not.

| Size | Large, 5" x 8.25"Source: Amazon listing - Moleskine 2027 12-Month Daily Planner, Large |
What it does well
- A genuine full page per day, which almost no planner at this price offers.
- Same dated 2027 range and same cover language as the weekly, so it reads as a considered upgrade.
- Thick enough to double as the only book they carry.
What it does not
- Heavy and bulky compared with the weekly edition.
- Punishing to use if the recipient does not write daily.
- No published paper weight, same as the rest of the range.
Skip this: if you have never seen how much they actually write. A daily page is a commitment device, and gifting a commitment device to someone who did not ask for one lands badly.
The three features that matter
1. A short, undated run
A twelve-month dated book has a punishing failure mode: miss two weeks and the abandoned pages sit there for the rest of the year as a record of having stopped. A 90-day undated book has no such pages. If it gets abandoned in week six, it was a 90-day book anyway, and the next one starts whenever you open it.
That is why the top pick here is a 90-day book rather than the most feature-rich one. Removing the guilt mechanism is worth more than adding a habit tracker.
2. An hourly column, not just a list
A to-do list answers what. An hourly grid forces when, and for anybody whose difficulty is starting a task rather than remembering it, when is the harder question. Three of the five picks here publish an hourly or time-blocking layout.
The trade is that an hourly grid on a small page produces rows too short to write in. That is the argument for the letter-size edition over the pocket one, and it is worked through on planner sizes explained.
3. Binding that lets the book stay open
A spiral-bound book folds flat and folds back on itself, so it occupies half a desk and stays open at today's page without being held. A sewn hardcover has to be weighted down or it closes. It sounds trivial and it is the difference between a book that is consulted during the day and one that is opened in the morning and shut.
The five compared on structure
| Planner | Run length | Time structure | Binding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Panda Planner 90-day | 90 days, undated | Hourly schedule | Spiral, lays flat |
| Panda Planner Pro | 6 months, undated | Time blocking | Softcover |
| Clever Fox Weekly Undated | Undated, ongoing | Habit tracker and to-do lists | Lay-flat binding |
| Legend Planner A5 | Undated, ongoing | Weekly and monthly | Eco-leather hardcover |
| Moleskine 2027 Daily | 12 months, dated | One page per day | Sewn hardcover |
The Moleskine daily is last on this list and it is on it for one reason: some people want the full page and the printed dates, and the 400-page book delivers exactly that. It is the highest-risk pick here because it is the longest commitment with the least flexibility.
What we would not buy for this
- A twelve-month dated book as a first attempt. If a paper system has not stuck before, a year-long book is a year-long record of it not sticking.
- Anything with a rigid printed methodology. A book that requires a morning routine, an evening review and a weekly reflection is three commitments, not one.
- A pocket-size hourly planner. The rows are too short to write a real task into. Size up or drop the hourly grid.
- A planner with no paper weight published, if a fountain pen is involved. Ghosting on a dense hourly grid makes the page genuinely hard to read.
The cheapest thing that helps
A pen that does not smear. It sounds beside the point and it is not: an hourly grid gets a lot of hand contact, and quick-drying gel ink is the difference between a legible page and a smudged one - particularly for left-handed writers, who drag across everything they just wrote. Pens and writing gifts has the picks, and ink and bleed-through covers the paper interaction.
Questions people actually ask
What kind of paper planner works best for ADHD?
Structurally: a short undated run so abandonment costs nothing, an hourly column so tasks get a time rather than just a name, and a binding that stays open. This is a design observation, not clinical advice.
Is an undated planner better for ADHD?
Many people find it is, because a dated book turns a missed fortnight into a permanent visible record. An undated one simply starts again where it is opened.
Is a daily or weekly layout better?
Daily if tasks need an hour attached to them, weekly if the problem is remembering rather than starting. The full trade is on daily versus weekly.
Does a habit tracker help?
It helps some people and becomes another thing to fail at for others. If a system needs a morning routine, an evening review and a weekly reflection, that is three commitments rather than one.
How long should a planner run be?
Ninety days is a common sweet spot: long enough to be a real season and short enough that stopping does not leave ten months of blank pages behind.
