The spiral binding is the underrated part. It folds flat and folds back, so it takes up half a desk instead of a whole one, and it stays open while you write.

There is a plausible reason for the pattern. An undated planner has no printed-date deadline, so it can be manufactured and sold year-round rather than dumped in January - which changes the economics enough to afford heavier stock. We are inferring that rather than quoting anybody, but the published numbers themselves are not in doubt.
What writing the dates in actually costs
Be honest with yourself about this before buying. A weekly undated planner has 52 spreads, and each needs a week-commencing date and seven day numbers. That is a genuine sit-down job of perhaps twenty to thirty minutes, and it is the single most common reason an undated book stays unused in a drawer.
The mitigation most people land on is to fill in one month at a time. It takes two minutes, it keeps the book flexible if life reorganizes, and it removes the up-front barrier entirely.
When dated is genuinely better
