Editorial Policy

What gets published, what does not, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Sourcing

  • Every specification is cited. Each figure links to the manufacturer or retailer page that states it. The content model this site is built on will not accept a specification without either a source or an explicit “not published” marker, so an uncited number cannot reach a page by accident.
  • Absent figures are labeled, not guessed. Where a maker does not publish something, the page says “not published” rather than substituting a plausible number from a similar product.
  • Maker claims are labeled as maker claims. When a manufacturer says its backing improves grip by 70 percent, we attribute it to them rather than presenting it as an independent measurement.
  • Arithmetic is shown. Where we compute something — cost per week, keyboard-plus-mouse width, page counts at a given paper weight — the inputs are on the page so you can check the working.

Claims we refuse to make

  • That we tested anything. We have not handled these products. No “in our testing”, no “we tried”, no test unit, in any wording.
  • Credentials we do not hold. No certifications, no expert panel, no “medically reviewed by”, no claim of tenure or years of experience.
  • Ratings of our own. We publish no score out of ten, because a score implies a test. There is no Review or AggregateRating markup in this site’s structured data.
  • Invented prices, review counts or sales figures. Prices come only from the live retailer feed and disappear when they go stale.
  • Testimonials. Ink & Indent launched in 2026 and has no customers to quote. A fabricated one would be worse than no section at all.
  • Manufactured urgency. No countdowns, no “only three left”, no invented scarcity.

Recommendations

  • Every roundup names at least one thing we would not buy, and every individual pick carries a “skip this if” line. A list where everything is excellent is a catalog.
  • Ranking is by fit for the reader described at the top of the page, never by commission rate. Where a cheaper product is the better buy, it goes first.
  • We do not link to products we cannot verify are sold. Where a brand is worth discussing but is not reliably available — Hobonichi and Erin Condren are the two in this category — we cover it informationally with no buy button rather than writing a comparison whose link cannot exist.

Corrections

Corrections get read first. If a specification here does not match the source it cites, or a source page has changed, tell us at info@inkandindent.com or through the contact page.

  1. We check the claim against the cited source.
  2. If it is wrong, we fix the page and update its last-modified date, because the content genuinely changed.
  3. Where the correction changes a recommendation rather than a detail, we say so on the page rather than editing silently.

Update cadence

  • Prices refresh daily and carry the date they were checked. A price refresh is not an editorial update and never changes a page’s modified date.
  • Dates are never bumped without a content change. A last-updated stamp that moves because a build ran is a lie told to a crawler, and it is the reason this site’s sitemap reads its dates from the content rather than from the build clock.
  • Planner-year content is reviewed each September, when the next season’s books appear. The year lives in titles and headings, never in a URL.
  • Cited specifications are re-checked periodically against the current manufacturer documentation, because listings change.

Independence

No brand has paid for a placement, and nobody has sent us a product. If either ever happens it will be labeled on the page it affects. The commercial relationship we do have — affiliate commission on purchases — is set out in full on the affiliate disclosure, and the method behind the recommendations is on how we pick.
