Every planner guide you will read this month claims a year of testing. We have not handled any of these products and we say so on every page that recommends one. What we do instead is compile the published specifications, name the ones the makers refuse to publish, do the arithmetic, and cite all of it — the method is here. Prices come from the retailer and refresh daily; where we have nothing fresh, we show no number rather than a stale one.

We compile what the makers publish, and we name what they do not. Three of the six planners on this site decline to state a paper weight; every notebook here states one. That gap is a finding, and rendering it is most of what we do.
Then we do the arithmetic nobody prints: what a planner costs per week of use, how many pages you lose when you buy heavier paper, how wide a desk pad has to be before a mouse stops running off the edge. And every pick names the buyer it is wrong for, because a list where everything is excellent is a catalog rather than a recommendation.
