A full-size keyboard is about 17.5" wide and a mouse needs roughly 10" of travel beside it. 31.5" covers both with an inch to spare, which is why this is the size that stops looking like a placemat.
The depth is the part people get wrong. 15.8" is enough for a keyboard plus a notebook in front of it; 13.8" is not.

Felt and leather are not two finishes of the same product. Felt absorbs sound, so a mechanical keyboard is measurably less irritating on it; leather reflects it.
The other half of that trade is spills. Water-resistant is not waterproof, and coffee on wool is a mark you live with. If the recipient drinks at their desk, this is the wrong material and the PU pads are the right ones.
The proportions are unusual: 33" wide by only 14" deep. That is a wide, shallow strip suited to a keyboard-forward desk, not a general work surface.

The adjustment range spans almost exactly what the two wood risers offer as fixed heights - 2.87 inches at the bottom, 4.8 at the top. Buying this first and finding out which tier feels right is a genuinely sensible way to shop for a fixed one later.
22 lb is the lowest rating in this comparison and it is still more than most single monitors weigh. Check yours if it is a large or older panel; that is the one case where the number bites.
ABS plastic is the honest weakness. It works, it is light, and it will never look like the wood options on a desk you care about the appearance of.

The riser at number two breaks the contact rule on purpose, and it is the only thing on this site that does. The one measurement that decides half the list
Desk width, after subtracting whatever is permanent. A full-size keyboard is about 17.5 inches and a mouse wants roughly ten inches beside it, so a pad under about 30 inches wide leaves the mouse running off the edge.
Depth is the number people skip and it decides whether you can write at the desk at all. Fifteen point seven inches takes a keyboard with an A5 notebook in front of it; twelve inches takes a keyboard and nothing. Two pads, and why both are here
There is a PU pad and a wool felt pad on this list, and they are not redundant - they suit different rooms.
- PU leather wipes clean and is waterproof. It is the right surface for a desk with a mug on it, which most home offices are.
- Wool felt is noticeably quieter under a mechanical keyboard and warmer under a forearm in winter. It also absorbs a spill permanently.

What a home office does not need
- A desk accessory kit. Matching plastic stapler, tape dispenser, letter tray and pen cup. Each item is the cheapest possible version of itself.
- A second monitor riser for a laptop, if the laptop is closed and docked. Nothing needs raising if nothing is being looked at.
- Anything described purely as an aesthetic upgrade. Price it as decoration and decide on that basis, which is a perfectly legitimate purchase - just not an ergonomic one.
- A drawer unit on the desk surface. It consumes the depth you need for writing. Put storage under the desk.
